Pierre Lavoie’s reputation speaks for itself. A man of countless projects, he has seen and done almost everything… except vanlife! It didn’t take more for VanLife Campers to step in. Already admirers of his achievements—from co-founding the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie to his many athletic accomplishments—we had long dreamed of collaborating with him. So we invited him to become our ambassador, with one condition: to fully embrace vanlife. Pierre and his partner Lynne took on the challenge and spent nearly the entire summer on the road. Here’s a look back at their memorable adventure.

The first word Pierre repeated more than once during our interview was simple: memorable.
“A memorable journey, truly memorable.”
Over the summer, Pierre and Lynne traveled extensively, including three full tours around Lac Saint-Jean. From Anse-Saint-Jean to St-Gédéon and Saint-Henri-de-Taillon, they discovered breathtaking landscapes and what Pierre describes as some of the most beautiful sunsets in Quebec.

Their journey continued toward the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, following the Saguenay Fjord—an absolutely stunning route.
After taking the Tadoussac ferry, they narrowly missed the Saint-Siméon crossing. But instead of frustration, they embraced the moment.
“We missed the ferry, but it doesn’t matter—we’re in vanlife!”
That evening turned into an unexpected highlight: parked by the water, enjoying a simple meal and connecting with locals. It was a perfect example of the freedom vanlife provides.

This experience made them realize the true value of vanlife autonomy—the ability to adapt, change plans, and fully enjoy each moment without stress.
“Everything is possible thanks to our autonomy… we can change plans at any moment and enjoy complete peace of mind.”
After more ferry crossings, they finally reached the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, where they spent twelve unforgettable days exploring beaches, cliffs, and marine life.

Their days were filled with unique experiences: fishing for lobster at 2 a.m., discovering local culture, visiting friends, and enjoying the ocean.
They also stayed at several campgrounds, including Gros-Cap, where they extended their stay from three to five days—proof of just how much they enjoyed it.

After returning to Quebec, they hit the road again for two weeks in Gaspésie, visiting friends including Ricardo Larrivée in Percé.
Their conversations reflected a shared passion for this simple and practical lifestyle.

When asked about their overall experience, Pierre had nothing but positive things to say.
“We didn’t expect this. It only took a few hours to feel completely comfortable in the van.”
The adaptation was quick, and once the switch was made, they instantly felt in vacation mode.

Pierre also highlighted the van’s layout and functionality.
“Everything is well thought out. Nothing is unnecessary. The space feels much bigger once you understand how to use it.”
Comfort, practicality, and quality sleep were all part of the experience.

Even their dog Kona quickly adapted to this lifestyle.
To conclude, Pierre shared what stood out the most: freedom.
“Vanlife gives us incredible flexibility. If we feel like moving, we move. We can change plans anytime.”
This perfectly sums up their experience.
